Fruit of the heart, a subtle and powerful medicine
Cacao is the seed of the cacao tree and the main ingredient of chocolate. It originates from the Amazon Forest, along with several power plants. There are three types of bean; Trinitario is the most common type, Forastero is the next most common and Criollo being the rarest of the Cacao beans, it is said to be the most flavoursome of the three. Theobromine - a naturally occurring compound found in cacao - was revered by the Mayans and was considered a gift from the Gods.
